The CNC precision line boring process


\When main tunnels require correction, line boring is the most accurate and effective solution. Our engine block boring machine allows us to achieve precise results, ensuring every detail is aligned to exact specifications. The process involves:
  1. Machining the parting faces of the main caps to reduce the tunnel size.
  2. Using CNC-guided tools to bore the tunnels to the correct size and alignment.
Line boring is particularly essential when fitting aftermarket main caps, such as steel 4-bolt main caps for V8 engines. This process ensures that the new caps are perfectly aligned with the block, providing long-term reliability and stability for your engine.

Line honing: An alternative solution


In some cases, line honing can also be used to correct main tunnel discrepancies. This method involves machining the parting faces of the main caps to reduce the tunnel size, followed by honing the tunnels with a precision mandrel to achieve the correct dimensions. While line honing is effective for minor adjustments, line boring provides a higher level of accuracy and is the preferred choice for aftermarket modifications or engines with significant misalignment.
